Championship Notices (4th September 2017)
The Association is celebrating its 60th birthday on the 8th of October 2017 at the Brooklands Museum. Our Chairman – Steve Castle – is looking for competitors who would like the chance to show their rally cars at this iconic location. So if you fancy giving the car a polish and taking it along to support the Association please get in touch with Steve direct. His email address is firstname.lastname@example.org or you can call him on 07976 388849.
The date of the Patriot Stages at Caerwent has been changed to the 1st of October. It’s a brilliant venue that puts both the driver and co-drivers skills to the ultimate test, there’s a couple of hundred turns and corners at the venue and it offers some great rallying.
The Rockingham Stages is to be the last round of the championship on the 9-10th of December 2017. Competitors for the championship do need to do both days to be awarded points.
If you haven’t done much competing over the summer and want to hone the old driving skills, or if you fancy trying your hand at gravel driving in a non-competitive environment Chris Surman is organising a day at Walters Arena in South Wales on the 7th of October – Fee is £350 per car and it’ll be a ‘queue up and go’ approach, last time each car got about 80 stage miles on the day so it’s better than a lot of rallies! There is no MSA involvement so you won’t need to scrutineer but as a minimum you will need a helmet (although I would suggest your HANS as well).
I have only received one potential offer to take over the championship at the end of the year, if you fancy having a go please let me know. Also, we need suggestions and ideas as to how to attract more competitors to the championship, we can’t really reduce the cost anymore but if we can’t get more competitors it may be suspended for a year which I would hate to see. We will be approaching clubs to ask if they will advertise it in their Regs and I was also wondering if there would be anyone willing to volunteer to hand out copies of the Regs and entry forms at events. If I can get one volunteer per event up to Abingdon it would be an immense help to my successor.
